Hyundai Motor Group's robotics technologies are redefining mobility by enabling movement in places and applications where traditional mobility solutions have limitations.
One example is MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid), an innovative mobility platform that combines propulsion, steering, and braking functions in each wheel. Its advanced control system allows the platform to maintain stability across uneven terrain while safely transporting people or cargo. The platform's flexible architecture also enables a wide range of applications, including logistics, mobility assistance, inspection, and content production.
At the foundation of these innovations is Hyundai Motor Group's vision for a future where intelligent robotics and mobility technologies work together to expand freedom of movement and create new possibilities for individuals, communities, and industries.
Hyundai is advancing toward SDVs through innovations in electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture, enabling vehicle features and experiences to continuously evolve through software updates. At the center of this transformation is PLEOS, Hyundai Motor Group’s mobility software platform that connects the vehicle, cloud, and mobility ecosystem to deliver smarter and more connected experiences.
PLEOS is an end-to-end software platform that integrates:
PLEOS Connect is a next-generation in-vehicle infotainment system designed to fundamentally transform the customer mobility experience. The design of PLEOS Connect is centered on intuitiveness and simplicity, featuring a combination of touch and physical controls for convenient and seamless operation.
The system’s user experience (UX), developed through extensive research into driver behavior by the Group’s UX Studios in Seoul, Irvine, Frankfurt and Shanghai, mirrors the familiarity of a mobile device to enhance ease of use and minimize driver distraction. Its intuitive UX combines a central widescreen, a slim forward display and physical buttons for convenient and safe vehicle control. The advanced navigation system offers intuitive, data-driven route guidance with online maps and is further enhanced through integration with Gleo AI.
PLEOS Connect introduces the App Market, an open platform for third-party services that extends the user experience far beyond driving. It offers rich media content services such as YouTube and Spotify directly through the system, without requiring a smartphone connection.
Gaming, entertainment, and vehicle management services will be offered through external partnerships. An Open development platform ‘PLEOS Playground’ provides developers with the design guides, application programming interfaces (APIs), sample codes and development support tools needed to create and launch new services for the ecosystem.
At the heart of PLEOS Connect is Gleo AI, an advanced voice assistant built on a large language model (LLM). Currently, Gleo AI’s operations are centered on vehicle control and convenience features. However, the system is scheduled to be linked with a variety of application services in the future.
This integration will enable customers to seamlessly and naturally use a wide range of app functions with voice commands alone. Furthermore, the Group intends to accelerate the development of related technologies to empower Gleo AI to provide personalized services tailored to individual driver characteristics.
Hyundai Motor Group has established a Data Union that integrates autonomous driving data from across the organization, including 42dot and Motional, as well as external partners. Through this ecosystem, the Group aims to create a data flywheel in which technology development, data acquisition, and model improvement continuously reinforce one another, accelerating the advancement of autonomous driving technologies.
At the same time, Hyundai Motor Group is pursuing global partnerships to shorten the path to commercialization and reduce time-to-market, while leveraging the extensive driving data generated through these collaborations to further strengthen its proprietary end-to-end (E2E) autonomous driving model. Ultimately, the Group's objective is to develop autonomous driving technologies that it can fully validate, and scale independently on its own terms.
The IONIQ 5 Robotaxi, purpose-built for autonomous ride-hailing and manufactured at Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), demonstrates how integrated vehicle engineering and autonomous driving technology can enable scalable, production-ready mobility solutions.
Motional plans to operate driverless robotaxis on the Uber network in Las Vegas using continuous fleet learning to improve performance and expand to new cities while maintaining rigorous safety standards.
